SEISA Women's Champs Regatta
April 18-19Southern Methodist University & CSC
Regatta Highlights:
Southern Methodist University was very excited to host their first Championship Regatta on White Rock Lake. The day began very slowly with a postponement until 12:30 PM due to lack of wind and heavy rain. As the day went on, the wind picked up and the rain clouds slowly dissipated. Race committee was able to finish one full rotation on Saturday, and ran windward-leewards and triangle courses. 14 races were sailed in a SSE breeze at 5-7 knots. Races continued until 5:30PM. On Sunday, the race committee started a second rotation, but only finished the first two sets and then abandoned the rest of the rotation due to high winds. The breeze was NNW at an average of 18 knots gusting to 25-30. Four protests and one redress were filed resulting in no disqualifications. The second place team, University of Texas, did not properly fill out their RP forms and suffered a 40 point penalty and there fore gave up their berth to Women's Semi-Finals to the University of Oklahoma. SMU and Rice also improperly filled out their RP forms and suffered a 20 point penalty. Congratulations to Texas A&M Galveston and University of Oklahoma for qualifying, good luck! Many thanks goes out to all the teams that helped with the running of races and rotating. Also, a big thanks goes out to the PRO, Anderson Jones, for running great races and the Corinthian Sailing Club for hosting the regatta.

SEISA Co-ed Dinghy Championships
University of Texas at AustinApril 4-5, 2009
Regatta Highlights:
Saturday
Breeze was 8-12 knots from the south until decreasing to 5 knots towards the
end of the day. Races were generally 15-20 minutes long on a modified
winward-leeward course with a leeward gate. 8 races in each fleet were
completed.
Sunday
A strong northerly overnight brought the breeze up to a healthy 18-22 knots
from the NNW. Four of the ten participating teams chose not to sail. The
strong winds caused minor damage to three boats including tearing a batten
sleeve, breaking a jib block car, and breaking a boom vang shackel. After
finishing one full rotation, there was a clear division between the top
ranked boats so the regatta was ended.

After a delay because we were having some issues getting the committee boat's engine to run we got our first start off just before 11. The wind was from the south and off the land, meaning it was very shifty, and varied with bands of rain coming across. We got off 6 A races and 4 B races, many of them in heavy rain, before the wind completely shut off at 2. We waited around until about 3:30 to see if the wind would fill to finish the rotation, but it never came back. USA was only able to field one boat and TAMUG had an extra so we combined the two to get another boat on the line.
Thanks to Reeves Price for helping out with Race Committee, and to UNO for letting us use their powerboat.

Regatta Report
We had a slow start getting things going due to having to change the
rotations around, and it was very difficult to get a course set. The
wind started around 10 knots from the SE, but quickly died down and
switched to the south. The wind never settled in leaving very puffy
and shifty conditions. The race committee and all teams in attendance
opted to complete as many races as possible on Saturday, as many teams
had 10+ hour drives on Sunday, and so that everyone could enjoy the
parades.
There were three protests, all in B-fleet, with each one resulting in
a team getting DSQ'd from the race. Notre Dame was issued redress in
race 3A, as the jib halyard jumped the track and they were without a
jib.
Thank you to our Race Committee, Peter Hopkins and Philip Hubbell.
They did a great job running races given the tricky conditions.
Congratulations to Tulane for winning the event.

2009 Harris Kempner Regatta
February 14, 2009
Texas A&M University
College Station, TX
Racing began at 10:30 AM with 5-11 knot winds out of the North. Conditions remained steady until 4:00 PM when the threat of thunderstorms forced the boats off the water and eventually ended the regatta. Congratulations to OU for winning Harris Kempner 2009!
A big thanks to Hugh Haggerty for running the races all day from a not so luxurious platform. Thanks to the Dominguez family for cooking a delicious lunch for the teams right on the lake. Thanks to TAMUG and Baylor for helping out with some boat parts and also to the entire TAMU team for setting up, tearing down, and planning the entire event. Lastly, a thanks goes out to Matthew McBride for providing a marine vessel for use as a mark set boat and for winning the canoe race.
