List Serve Summary

Here are all the list-serves that I haven't posted yet.

Hey sailors,
Email me back if you would like to come to the regatta this weekend in
Austin. We will leave Saturday morning to drive there. Some of us will
be spending the night to continue racing on Sunday and join in the
post-race festivities Saturday night, while there is usually also
group that comes back to Houston Saturday after dinner. If you'd like
to come, let me know which of these options you'd like to take
advantage of.

There will also be another Thursday meeting this week to help us
continue to improve our racing preparation.

The following weekends, remember, will be the A&M College Station
regatta, and then the Tulane regatta.

Thanks to the team that made it out to Corpus this past weekend! We
placed 11th out of 13 teams, quite pleasing especially considering our
few opportunities to practice so far this year.

See you all soon!

Rice Sailing Team,
I am going to be heading out to HYC this weekend to help out with the clean up.  People who can't make the Regatta, this is going to be a good way to give back to the Yatch club.  So here is the plan.
Baker @ 9:30 Saturday (18th)
Drive to HYC
Help out
Drive back

Please RSVP to jim.doty@rice.edu so that I can make sure we have enough cars or so that we won't leave you behind.

Here is our regatta schedule again for the upcoming weekends:
Corpus Christi 10/18-19
UT Austin 10/25-26
A&M College Station 11/1
Tulane 11/7-9

Don't feel at all like you have to make all of the regattas to
participate in sailing. We will gladly take you to whichever ones you
can make. I will particularly recommend the A&M regatta if you are
just curious and want to try things out but staying overnight doesn't
work in your schedule.

This weekend is Corpus! If you still want to go, email me back by
tomorrow (10/15) at midnight so that we can start to get our plans
together. If anyone going wants to volunteer for lunch food (peanut
butter and jelly) that would be awesome. We usually take turns picking
up PB&J for the team from regatta to regatta. So far those signed up
for Corpus are: myself, Michelle, Alex, Spencer, Kyle, Andrew, and
David. Let me know if you need to be added or subtracted. We will
leave this Saturday at 5 AM and return Sunday at noon.

Additionally, HYC volunteering opportunities are now here! The yacht
club now needs help repairing the playground and rebuilding some youth
sailing storage areas. If you are not going to Corpus for the weekend
but do have the opportunity to help during the day on Saturday, Jim
will be leading a group down to HYC. Email him at  jim.doty@rice.edu
if you would like to join in.

Thanks!
Garrett

Sailors, several news items for you:
- This Thursday will be another on-campus meeting, 8-9 PM in Hum 226.
Please do your best to attend, as we will be preparing for the regatta
on October 18th at Corpus.
- If you plan to come to the Corpus event or any other regatta, you
must be a part of the ICSA registry (the national intercollegiate
organization). Go to sailing.rice.edu  and click on ICSA registry.
From there, either create a new registration or search for your old
one if you have been registered before. BE SURE to indicate
eligibility for Fall 2008. You will then be approved in the next few
days by our advisor, Amanda Focke.
- HYC has begun plans for volunteer activities. The first project with
these crews will be the rebuilding of the Beachcomber. We don't have a
definite start date or schedule yet, as they still need heavy
machinery to install the pilings, but we will let you know as soon as
we can head down there.

Thanks,
Garrett

Sailors, mark your calendars for our next sailing event, the regatta
at A&M Corpus Christi the weekend of October 18th! With Houston Yacht
Club in such bad shape right now, we will be looking to go to several
more regattas. Any undergrad is welcome to sign up to come, we always
try to give everyone a chance to sail instead of sitting on the shore.
(Sorry, only undergrads are allowed to compete in the district.) Email
me back when you figure out if you can come so that we can start to
plan. There will likely be some cars who return Sunday afternoon and
some who just go Saturday. We will have the regularly scheduled
on-campus meeting October 9th to prepare for the regatta.

Other regattas we are thinking about attending: UT 10/25, A&M College
Station 11/1, Tulane 11/8

Also, unfortunately we will not be going to HYC this Saturday. We are
in contact with the club and are pressing for an opportunity to
volunteer, and will let you know when we get one.

Thanks for your patience after Ike, and I hope to see you all soon!

Hello everyone, I hope you all are well and safe this week.

A few of us got the opportunity to go down to Houston Yacht Club
today, and while many of our own boats escaped damage the yacht club
is in extremely bad shape. Simply put, the storm is going to change
some of our plans for this semester:

-We will not be able to practice at HYC for some time now.
-Instead of trips to sail at HYC, we will be organizing trips to go
help clean the yacht club up. The first of our trips will be this
Saturday. If you are interested in coming out to help, please contact
me. We need a head count beforehand as best we can because of the
difficulty we will encounter in finding drivers that have gasoline.
-On-campus meetings will continue as scheduled. Our next will be next
Thursday the 25th, 8-9 in HUM 226.
-Look for more opportunities to travel and sail with other schools
than we had originally planned. If you're not experienced, don't
worry, we always bring everyone to regattas and let them sail. Keep an
eye out for destinations such as A&M Corpus, A&M College Station and
Tulane.

Again, I hope that everyone has stayed well. If there is help that you
need, please don't hesitate to let us know. We have many able bodies
at the ready.

-Garrett
